WEDNESDAY NIGHT INSTRUCTIONALROW
Last night 3 members from the Newbie Class of 09 joined me for some instructional rowing at the back of Browns Island. With a flooding tide and calm seas, Garrett Kanter (neverever and soon to be a new member), Edie Lewis (1st time this season) and Scott Smith took to the water, each one of them bringing talent (and challenges) with them. This is my second time w/Scott and what a difference time on the water can bring. He still suffers from the"hands over the knee" stroke common of those rowing static seat dories, but shows remarkable improvementin just one lesson. Edie has rowed most of her life (see June's newletter for her profile). She very quickly got re-adapted to the wonderful Echos. Garrett was the biggest surprise. He is a talented athlete and took naturally to the water and rowing. With some additional instruction from the better club rowers, he could be a wonderful addition. We ended the lesson with a loop arounds Browns giving everyone the opportunity to experience the happenings on the bay in open water, They performed like champs
